Under Kotak's leadership, the institution expanded into retail and corporate banking, asset management, insurance and investment banking. The acquisition of ING Vysya Bank in 2015 further strengthened its position in India's competitive banking sector.
After nearly four decades of executive leadership, Kotak stepped down as Managing Director and CEO in September 2023. He subsequently continued as a non executive director on the bank's board, contributing his experience to its long term direction.
