Bengaluru-based consumer hardware startup Aina, founded by former Ultrahuman executive Apoorv Shankar, has unveiled an AI-powered smart ring designed to predict users' next actions and control digital assistants without repeatedly reaching for a smartphone.

The company launched the device on November 5, 2026, following 15 months of development in stealth. Global pre-orders have opened at a limited introductory price of $399, with the regular price set at $499. Shipments are expected to begin in January 2027.

Unlike conventional smart rings that primarily track health and fitness, Aina is positioning its device as an interface for AI agents, applications and connected devices.

The launch comes months after the startup announced a $5.5 million seed funding round in July 2026, strengthening its push into consumer AI hardware.

How Aina's AI Ring Predicts What Users Need Next

Aina's ring runs on a proprietary context-aware operating system designed to learn users' routines and anticipate everyday requirements.

By drawing information from connected phones, Macs, calendars, locations and AI agents, the system identifies three likely next actions and displays them on the ring's miniature screen.

Users can approve or reject suggestions with a thumb-controlled flick, reducing the need to unlock a smartphone for routine decisions.

For instance, if someone regularly books a cab at 9 AM, Aina could surface a relevant ride-booking shortcut shortly before departure.

The company believes this approach could become increasingly useful as AI agents move beyond answering questions to performing tasks proactively.

Three Features Powering Aina's AI Ring

Aina has developed three interaction modes to make its wearable useful across everyday digital activities.

1. Aina Voice

Users can press and hold the ring's central button to communicate with connected AI agents, dictate notes, issue commands or respond to notifications.

A built-in microphone and speaker also support phone calls, allowing users to initiate a conversation through voice commands and bring their hand near their ear to listen.

2. Aina Cues

The Cues feature analyses contextual information and user habits to recommend relevant actions before they are requested.

These could include booking a cab, accessing a meeting or controlling connected services based on the user's routine.

3. Aina Remote

The ring can function as a context-sensitive remote for applications and connected devices.

When music is playing, it can display playback controls. During online meetings, it can provide shortcuts for microphones, cameras and other meeting functions.

The company says the device will initially support iOS and Mac, with additional integrations to be detailed later.

Founder Apoorv Shankar's Journey From Ultrahuman To Aina

Aina was founded in May 2025 by Apoorv Shankar, who previously served as Vice-President of Hardware at Indian wearable technology company Ultrahuman.

The startup initially operated as a human-computer interaction research lab, experimenting with new ways for people to control software and connected devices.

At CES 2026, the team demonstrated experimental interface concepts. It subsequently introduced Dune, a three-key contextual controller for Mac applications, which reached hundreds of early users.

Aina also began testing its ring with a private group of users in October 2026.

The company has a team of approximately 40 people across Bengaluru and San Francisco, combining hardware engineering, industrial design and manufacturing expertise.

Aina's $5.5 Million Funding And Market Opportunity

Aina's July 2026 seed funding provides financial backing for its move from experimental interfaces to commercial consumer hardware.

The startup is entering an emerging market where companies are exploring dedicated devices for interacting with increasingly autonomous AI agents.

Its approach differs from attempts to replace smartphones. Instead, Aina aims to make routine approvals, voice commands and device controls faster while retaining the phone and computer as primary computing platforms.

However, commercial success will depend on how accurately its software predicts user needs, the breadth of supported applications and whether consumers find sufficient value in another connected device.

Aina AI Ring Price And Availability

Aina opened global pre-orders on November 5, with limited early-bird units priced at $399.

The standard price is $499, and the company expects shipments to begin in January 2027.

For now, the device represents a bet that the next important shift in personal computing may not be another screen, but a simpler way for people to direct the AI systems already working on their behalf.
